Enzymes: not exactly a “sexy” subject, but one that is very important! We all need enzymes to digest our food, and to get maximum nutrition from what we eat.
Each of us is born with a more than adequate supply of enzymes, but they diminish as we age. Food replenishes those enzymes that we need; and raw food delivers this benefit that you can’t find anywhere else. When food is cooked or processed, most enzymes are lost. Medications, especially over-the-counter antacids will rapidly deplete natural enzymes resources.
The only way then, to replace enzymes is through quality nutritional supplements, or by eating raw foods. Research shows that raw foods can help prevent or improve brain health, depression, psoriasis, arthritis, high blood pressure, diabetes, hormonal imbalances, eczema, allergies, bad breath, asthma, and even autoimmune disorders.
Most of the immune system resides in the gut, and when you strengthen your digestive system, you are enhancing your body’s ability to fight off disease.
Even if the benefits of raw food appeal to you, you may be thinking that it will either be just too hard to keep up with, or absolutely boring, but the truth is, it doesn’t have to be an either or choice. Incorporate as many raw foods in your daily diet as possible- for example, salads for lunch, or fresh berries with breakfast or as a dessert. Eat raw vegetables as a snack or side dish.
To learn more, I can highly recommend the book written by Brigitte Mars, “Rawsome! Maximizing Health, Energy and Culinary Delight with the Raw Foods Diet”.
Just try raw foods for a two week period and see if your energy level, mental clarity and general health don’t improve!
